Crazy it was Wiggins and Parker that were seen as bron and melo, instead we get the two best bigs of the decade!
As a Wolves Fan I had such high hopes with Wiggins, he was supposed to be Maple Jordan lol
And neither played in the 2015 season. Patience is a virtue
I think is was Jeff Teague that said it, If Jabari Parker doesn’t tear his ACL he’s a 100 million dollar man because he was that good.
Wiggins is still a very good player. a Fringe all-star / starting small forward. Not superstar but very serviceable in any team.
Embiid a fraud
I think you’re being a little hard on this class sure the lottery picks weren’t the best but from this class there’s 2 MVP’s, 3 all nba players, 5 all star players, 5 players to win an nba championship, a defensive player of the year with Marcus smart, a 6th man of the year winner in Jordan Clarkson, a rebounding champion in Clint capela, a few guys who averaged 20 ppg for a couple seasons like jerami grant and Spencer dinwiddie, and a bunch of role players who’ve had long careers like nurkic bogdanovic and Kyle Anderson it’s actually a pretty good draft class it’s not one you can really call weak.
I think that's the thing
Most of the best players were late 1st or 2nd round picks
@@GarkKahnI dont see how that should bring the class down tho when all of these great players came out of it
@@captainfalcon2878 It's more about expectations than anything else. There are so high on the top picks that not fulfilling them really skews the perception of a whole class. They're right to a certain extend: just look up how many HOF were first picks overall and those guys sell the league, but you're also right, as expectations are not results
This is why I don't watch Andy so much anymore. Looking at flashy accolades is weak. Anyone could do that. A real analyst could tell the true impact any player has on their team. Guys like Gary Harris and Jerami Grant deserve respect.
@@GarkKahnbut the still come from THIS draft and that’s what make it strong
It’s always fascinating to see how wrong we were a decade ago with these crazy predictions, especially Wiggins. However, Wiggins has had a nice career being a good (albeit a bit inconsistent) role player.
Wiggins is still top 5 in this class imo but yeah never lived up to his potential.
@@mattmmixes Sure he did but he was always the second or third option
wiggins should be in the hall of fame
Didint mention Marcus Smart was all defense and DPOY give more respect to the mans
Real
Marcus smart ain't all time nothing, just a roleplayer defender who got for a stretch big and a true all defensive guard
Smart was only good when he was with the Celtics. After he got traded, he became a nobody
@@ididntaskverified3663 Then let's just say he's one of the best perimeter defenders of our generation. Guards almost never get DPOY's.
@RKO859 He's only played 51 games in the last 2 years, I'm sure he'll be fine when he gets back healthy.
Any draft class that has two MVP winners is a solid one. Doesn't matter if a top 3 pick or the 50th pick.
Dario Saric was a key piece for the Phoenix Suns on their 2021 playoff run especially in the finals. When he got injured the bucks turned the table and had 4 straight wins.
As a Suns fan I know everyone forgets that. That was the beginning of the end for Ayton because he was scared of Giannis. After Dario went out only Jae Crowder would go toe to toe Giannis and it wasn't enough. Good call. 👍
Dario took giannis out in the paint most of the times that’s why pheonix offense was so good in the first 3 games
This draft had ALOT of hype… I didn’t forget… they had a lot of expectations for these players
“The Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes” was a real thing then. He had so much value and hype that basically him alone was enough to be the center of a trade package for a high end all-star Kevin Love who averaged 26-13-4 while shooting 38% from deep on 7 attempts, high for a center then.
class wasnt weak honestly, standards might be a bit too high
Marcus Smart was a defensive player of the year too
Did not deserve it
Jokic and Embiid class.
i remember how hyped andrew wiggins was. his career isn't bad but is nowhere near what we thought his career would be
Why, considering the circumstances he's a hall of fame player
@@mitchellmartinsky2299Wiggins a HOFer??
@ Yes !
@@mitchellmartinsky2299 what qualifies him as a HOFer?
@ His all around play, all star selections, all defensive teams, and a championship
Its crazy that the best player from this draft class was drafted during a TACO BELL commercial lmao.
This draft class was not disappointing, the players we thought who we're going to be superstars weren't
It’s not like it was 2013 bad. All that class was Giannis, and Gobert. If Oladipo never got hurt in Indiana, who knows what would’ve happened there. CJ McCullom is like the 4th best player in that draft 😂
Parker did have a couple really strong years in Milwaukee. But ultimately, the injuries derailed any promise he had. And it turned out that Giannis was just way better. The Bucks were right to move on from Parker and build around Giannis. Parker's attitude toward playing defense didn't help either. He had that quote at one point that he wasn't getting paid to play defense. Bro, that's why no one in the NBA will pay you anymore. He's said he's happy though. He's made millions of dollars and helped his family out of poverty. So I think that's really what matters. Not every great player is destined to become an NBA All-Star.
Jabari parker was really solid just an unfortunate amount of injuries
2:59 I don't think Andy talking about basketball 💀
yelling in the back....bUsT
Lotta players on here that didn’t tap into their potential. Solid class.
I hope you're taking notes bud, mister "god given talent and don't need hard work"
Crazy it was Wiggins and Parker that were seen as bron and melo, instead we get the two best bigs of the decade!
but where's Marcus Smart's mention man ?
2 of the guys from this class would miss out on 2017 ROTY to a second round pick
Wiggs was so hyped coming out of Kansas and before that High School
He didn’t turn into an generational player but an soild starter/role player who can guard the best players
circumstances prevented that but he's still a hall of famer
@ well he was in Minnesota
@ still is now
the fact that exum still in the nba while always getting hurt tells how good he is
Okay, imagine if Philly drafted Jokic instead of Embiid, Jaylen Brown over Ben Simmons, and Tatum over Fultz... That would have been a big 3 in Philly
4:11 when you hear those trumpets…
You know that this is the turning point of the video
Jokic is the greatest 2nd round pick by a long shot. Guys like Manu Ginobili are incredible players, but Jokic is an all-time great.
Exactly
Marcus Smart need RESPECT
Wiggins is an anomaly.. He got all everything he needed, personel, coaches, playing time, green light to shoot, best team mates, atleticism and never been hurt..
11:51 Elfird Payton has the best hairstyle in the 2014 NBA Draft Class.
Lol hair so good it even blocked him twice
Marcus Smart won DPOY, first guard since the glove. Don’t forget that when talking individual awards
Jaylen Brown BREAKDOWN you're next video Andy Hoops 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
But the craziest part about Embid, is that imagine if he was healthy his first two years?, and was in that god awful situation in philly?, during the peak trust the process years, he might have ended up like Evan Turner or Jahlil Oakafor, goes to show how much being in a god situation matters.
I never feel like players are busts. GM's are busts for not being able to evaluate talent. Aaron Gordon was a high draft pick because he was athletic. There are TONS of guys who have made it to the NBA on athleticism, but that's all that they have and are considered "busts". Statistically speaking, athletic players don't pan out most of the time. They don't have a great work ethic because they just blew by everyone all the way to the pros and were told that they were the next big thing all along the way. GM's need to start drafting guys on work ethic and interviews.
You have a great take. What are your thoughts on Anthony Bennet though?
@@RubenLopez-vi8ng 50/50 He was over rated. But he also shouldn't have busted out of the league so quickly. Especially on a bad Cleveland team that had no pressure to rush him along.
@@Davivd2he’s prime example of zero work ethic
Those little fake giggles in your video essay make this video a million times better.
If the #1 pick was anything to go off of, (He did end up getting traded for Kevin Love though) This class was very disappointing
But talent was found in unexpected places. Jokic, Jordan Clarkson, Jerami Grant and Dinwiddie all were from the second round and have been top 10 players in this class. The high picks outside of Embiid disappointed but a lot of guys proved their doubters wrong
@@mattmmixes -- agree. There are so many missed picks in EVERY draft. But there are a dozen names that I recognize in the 2014 with 4 MVP titles? Yeah, not too shabby
Embiid was supposed to be #1 but got injured before the draft

Wtf?
This draft class had unparalleled untapped potential and yet still produced generational talents.
How long does the "process" take?
There is a clear reason why top prospects weren’t as scouts expected. And there were loads of surprises in late draft
And the reason is golden state warriors and Steph Curry era. This is exactly the draft before Golden State era.
Players like Wiggins and Jabari talents were built for the era style before Steph exploded . The change of the game took all of their main advantages like his midrange game.
As well for others. You can see great talents in this draft struggling to adapt in their first years, to very changing game before they build name and confidence.
Some other unexpected players thrived in the new style of play
Only one made it out alive in that draft and that's Nikola Jokic 💯
This was supposed to be one of the greatest draft classes ever.
taco bell should sponsor jok now
I am surprised that Capela never made any all defensive team. He's been doing OK anchoring the paint for years and I thought he would've made the 2nd team once or twice.
He's to quiet, needed to cause a scene so people hear his name
As a Celtics fan, Marcus smart was a very polarizing player. Puts up big games then the next game go 1 for 11 and chucking 3s
I was 21 years old during the 2014 Draft Class and some of the respective players did not live up to their standards in the NBA,good friends!!!😔
Thanasis carrying this draft
Jabari could play at the NBA level though, is the thing. His body just failed him early on. He’d be a multi time all-star rn
13:28 - what site is that table from?
Tankathon
Thank gosh Cleveland went with Love instead of Wiggins
15:04 nothing in life is certain. Barring injury The Joker will be in MVP conversations for the foreseeable future, obviously. But Jokic is in his tenth season. When LeBron was in year ten, he had won his four MVPs and hasn’t won another since. Solid video as usual. I just don’t like it when people speak in certainties.
Make a video about how much Dany Ainge is a genius and always took the right choice in the draft
Jokic and Wiggins didn’t turn out bad
16:01 thanasis made the league by his own talent, giannis had only played one season and averaged like 6 points as the 15th pick, thanasis might not be a good nba player, but he made it by his own talent and abilities.
Bro this class isn’t even bad we’ve been spoiled with great talent that this is considered a bad draft class.
I stopped watching the NBA after the Dallas Mavericks debacle, but I still enjoy this kind of content. That is, as long I am still familiar with the players featured on them.
Ok...
Ouuuu i just like how Gordon won the Championship, coz he was robbed of that beautiful dunk contest! And that huuuge unjustice that was done to him in stupid Orlando!
This is why I dont ever, EVER, get hyped of hyped up players. 50% of them are gonna be scrubs.
The thing with LaVine is that he is *not* a good playmaker. He can score, he can create his own shot, and he can score off the ball very well. But he *cannot* create for his teammates and that ends up with him being forced into taking contested shots or trying to pass out of double-teams. His career 4.0 APG is misleading, as with a 2.6 TOV/G mark, he’s not even a 1.5 A/T guy, which is not good. And unlike some guys, he doesn’t make up for that with defense either.
Nikola Jokic, is my favorite player... So this draft class is probably my favorite draft class, I never looked in too many other drafts this decade! Taco Bell commercial, legendary!
sam hinkie's tanking always been look down but for me, its a really good decision but the problem after deciding that, they failed in scouting department.. i remember that time where they drafted 3 centers and no ones took their bait because their initial plan was to offer one of them (Noel, embiid, & okafor) before the start of regular season but no one made an offer.. instead of picking okafor that they thought the best player that will land on their pick, they should at other prospects.. it didnt help that they picked number 1 in 2016 a 6'10" point guard who doesnt want to shoot 3.. they should've for a reliable scorer in that draft.. and then in 2017, its just unfortunate fultz suffered an injury.. coming out of college i also believe in his skill that i compare him to guys like eric gordon and CJ McCollum that is more efficient offensively.. i believe ar that time, fultz is better than tatum and fits perfectly to sixers.. 2015 and 2016 for me are the bad draft decisions.. they should've consider drafting ingram or brown..
A class with 2 MVPs is disappointing?
Did not even realize Wiggins has one all star selection.
I wonder if embiid will get in the HoF? 🤔
He will cry his way in
6:24 dunking was always his only thing
I fucking love Nikola Jokic
It's not really a bad class, just a weird class because most of the talent is later in the Draft
12:59 and jason Richardson
Marcus smart won dpoy yk
He only won because the Celtics were good, He fell off
this is forever Taco Bell commercial draft
The goat Thanasis at #51!!
14:33 This isn't disappointing at all, even though Jokic and Embiid have the bulk of the all star appearances. Compared to other draft class.
The goat Thanasis 😅
A lot of good role players.
Bro the disrespect to jordan clarkson ,6man of theyear player sheeshhh
New mic Andy?
THANASIS is the actually one who carries this draft
Except for a few exceptions 2013 and 2014 were the drafts where the lower you went the better player you got
AG isn't polarizing. He's doing better than Randal
Wiggins is the same player that he was in college. A super athletic wing with no moves and a so-so jumpshot.
What do you mean no moves ? He can't create his own shot
he has those qualities
does elfrid payton have 6 finger or am I just hallucinating 11:51
To me it’s a underrated class
I never understood the Wiggins hype. I thought Parker was going to be an all time great though if he didn’t get hurt and had his coaches support him and Giannis would have been filthy
Lavine is a individually talented player but since hes a bad playmaker his teams dont win games and his contract is horrible. The bulls have been on a roll and have a bright future after he was traded. The kings have slid after trading fox for him and their future went from bright to shaky. His on off numbers tell you
Payton back on the pelicans
Wiggins rose to become the second best guy on a championship team, the team *I* cheer for (go Dubs) so it's really hard to consider him a bust, and he was Rookie of the Year. BUT, after his NCAA tournament game, I couldn't believe he went #1. The raw stat line was bad enough: 1 for 6, 4 points, 4 turnovers, but it was the game itself that sealed it for me. He looked so lost out there. I don't mean discombobulated. I mean genuinely "WTF am I doing out here?!" LOST. It was so awkward to watch, and Kansas lost and that was all she wrote for his college career. I was certain that someone else would go #1, maybe Embiid. Who cares if he was putting up 40 point games before that. When the bright lights were on, he shrank, and NBA lights are VERY bright. I really think the only reason he went #1 was because Cleveland had rolled the dice on another non-consensus #1 the year before and it was a disaster. They were going to swap the pick anyway, but I can't believe Minnesota didn't watch that NCAA game over and over and say "maybe we should ask Cleveland to take Parker #1."
thansis is clearly the best one to come out the 2014 draft
I don’t think this class is weak or bad by any means. Disappointing? Maybe, given the hype and how folks were comparing the 2014 class to the legendary 2003 class.
However, there are plenty of good players with long careers and 2 MVPs. It’s just the guys that ended up being great ended up going beyond pick 10 and nobody in the top 10 except Embiid (maybe Randle) lived up to the hype.
If everyone else wasn’t even in the nba still it still wouldn’t be the worst lol. 2 mvps is enough
is it just me or the class is not disappointing at all? except if people are disappointed about their predictions 😶
Sounds like a great class
Have you done the story on team Argentina winning the Olympics in 2004?
I'm surprised on how it's been a long time that an Argentinian player played in the NBA
Ah yes... the GOAT xd
Jordan clarkson
2 fighting for mvp and best bigmen
2 fighting for dunk contest
Not a bad class i say 😁
I wish 2025 draft class lives up to hype
How do you not mention how Marcus Smart was the first guard to win DPoY since Gary Payton give him his proper flowers
Wiggins💙💛, aka tatums daddy
i dunno about wiggins man... one night he'll drop 40, then the next 10 games you won't even hear about him... the inconsistency is just baffling... at least he helped the warriors get one more ring
he could easy score 20+ every game but team and winning over stats
Dissapointing...? Pretty good imo...
How?
I don't think this class was disappointing or anything actually a pretty decent class not worse than the 00s draft class🤣
Nikola Jokic❤❤❤
